I wrote this song the morning after seeing my friends The Western Den play a mid-week show at a small Boston rock club in Boston in early March. People at the show were checking their phones in between bands, trying to process breaking news of travel bans and canceled NBA seasons. It felt like cresting near the top of a rollercoaster--everything seemed manageable enough, but it was about to go downhill quickly. It was a beautiful show, and I remember driving home thinking "was that the last concert I am going to be able to see for the foreseeable future?"
A couple days later, my sons' schools closed for nearly a month and a half. As an effort to provide some sort of structured, educational activity, I suggested we work on recording my new song a little each day until homeschooling efforts became a bit more official. It took us a couple of weeks, but we got it done.
I wrote this song quickly, and it's simple, catchy, and tongue-in-cheek...but there's something else going on here. My family will burst into song at random times during the day, belting out different lines at the top of their lungs. It strikes a nerve, in the way that only rock n' roll does.
I can't wait to get back to performing and enjoying live music. In the meantime, let's take care of each other as best we can.
